What is Bori?
The Bori Agency is a unique service that supports press coverage across Brazil in the light of scientific evidence. We disseminate new and explained scientific research to registered journalists under embargo before its publication, in addition to contacts of scientists from all over the country prepared to attend the press. We also provide training and courses in specific coverage areas.
What is our mission?
The Bori Agency’s mission is to promote a change in Brazilian scientific culture, bringing science closer to the population through journalism. We understand that the best individual and collective decisions are made based on qualified information and scientific evidence.
Today, Brazil is among the 15 largest science producers in the world with studies of excellence in several areas, but few of them reach society. Bori wants to transform this scenario by supporting journalists’ work in covering science-based topics in different ways.
How do we do that?
We select scientific studies in the process of being published directly on the basis of partner academic journals, based on criteria such as journalistic interest, diversity of themes, gender and regional distribution of research institutions. We also include previously unpublished scientific content in this curatorship that we receive directly from research institutions and scientists.

What do we publish?
We anticipate unpublished studies to the press under embargo in the form of a scientific paper, research report, book or book chapter. We also anticipate science outreach books from partner university publishers.
Is Bori a press office?
No. Bori is a hub for Brazilian journalists who are looking for new studies and supporting material for their journalistic pieces. Many press offices of research groups, departments or universities work with us to expand the dissemination of research and sources from their respective institutions.
Is it just for science journalists?
No. We anticipate to the press research from all areas of knowledge, which go through editorials such as cities, economics, environment, politics, education and even sports. Editors and press officers can also register!
What doesn’t Bori do?
We do not disclose studies that have already been published. We also do not disseminate scientific works by researchers who do not agree to disclose their personal contacts (e-mail and cell phone) in the area of restricted access to registered journalists. The focus is always to anticipate unpublished studies to the press and facilitate the coverage of scientific topics by journalists. As our idea is to disseminate science to all regions of Brazil, we do not work with exclusive materials for specific journalists.
How is Bori financially supported?
We receive financial support from institutions that work in research and that support the dissemination of science and journalism. We remind you that Bori is non-profit. Check out who our partners and supporters are.
The name of the agency is a tribute to the researcher Carolina Bori, the first woman to preside the SBPC (Brazilian Society for the Progress of Science), from 1987 to 1989. She is considered a key scientist for the consolidation of Brazilian science, especially in the decades of 1960 to 1980. Our Bori also wants to further consolidate national science through the massive dissemination of the country’s excellent research in the national press.
