This antique, pocket self-help guide is a great example of "don't judge a book by its cover." From the preface...

"The risks to which independent thought is exposed are manifold and dangerous. I believe the Press, with all its merits, to be one of the greatest enemies to independent thinking... People read a great deal more than they used to do -- there is more to be read -- but they think less and remember more poorly because they gloss over surfaces of subjects that should be gone to the bottom of. The chief danger today is intellectual apathy."

That was written 99 years ago. 1904 to be exact when news was presented in ink on paper once a day. Yet it could have -- and should have -- been written today.

A great gift for anyone who looks past the cover. After all, "to have ideas is to gather flowers; to think is to weave them into garlands."
