Energy Efficiency Mentorship for Journalists
This 8-session mentorship program is designed to empower journalists with a deep understanding of energy efficiency as a transformative force for sustainable development. Aligned with SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), the program explores how energy-efficient technologies and policies can drive environmental, social, and economic progress. Through engaging sessions with specialists from different fields, such as science, government and NGOs, participants will uncover the critical role of energy efficiency in combating climate change, reducing energy poverty, and promoting a just transition.
InfoEnergia Award
During the program, participants will have the opportunity to put their learning into practice by producing reports on energy efficiency. The best piece will be honored with the Prêmio InfoEnergia, recognizing outstanding journalism that advances public understanding of energy efficiency and its role in sustainable development. This award aims to inspire high-quality, impactful storytelling that drives awareness and action toward a more sustainable and equitable energy future.

Session 2: The Label Wars: The Power Struggle Behind Energy Efficiency (May 27)
Who decides what’s efficient? In this session, dive into the behind-the-scenes world of energy efficiency labels and minimum energy performances requirements. Discover how governments, industries, and NGOs engage in epic battles to set standards that drive technological innovation. Understand why this process is dynamic, complex, and essential for sustainable development.
Session 3: Behind the Sticker: The Untold Story of Energy Efficiency Labels (June 10)
What does it take to make your fridge, AC, or washing machine more energy-efficient? This session sheds lights on the fascinating—and often contentious—process of setting energy efficiency standards for household appliances., Discover how governments, industries, and NGOs negotiate, innovate, and sometimes clash to create labels that drive technological progress, from refrigerators to air conditioners. Learn why these labels are more than just consumer tools—they’re a battleground for sustainability, innovation, and market transformation. Spoiler: Not everyone plays fair.
Session 4: Cooling: The Silent Revolution That Could Save the World (June 24)
From thermal comfort to human survival, cooling is an urgent issue on an increasingly hot planet. This session explores maps and data showing how vulnerable populations are affected by the lack of access to efficient cooling technologies. Discover how schools, homes, food chains and even data centers need to adapt to face climate challenges—and why this is vital for the future. This session shows how energy efficiency saves lives, preserves food, and reduces emissions.
Session 5: The Amazon on Fire: Energy, Inequality, and the Fight for Climate Justice (July 8)
The Amazon is the epicenter of one of the planet’s greatest environmental crises, but also a laboratory for innovative solutions. In this session, explore how isolated communities lack energy access, how fossil fuels are still the only way that isolated communities have some limited energy access. Discover why energy efficiency is a key piece of this puzzle to lead the transition to a low carbon economy in isolated energy systems.
Session 6: Power to the People: Stories from Urban Peripheries (July 22)
Energy poverty isn’t just a rural issue—it also affects millions in urban peripheries. In this session, learn about Brazilian initiatives bringing clean and efficient energy to those who need it most. From community cooperatives to advocacy projects, these stories show how energy efficiency can be a tool for social inclusion and fighting inequality.
